Project Summary: The primary purpose of this project is to complete a comprehensive literature review of words and terms associated with the Māori economy and compiled into a baseline dictionary of te reo whai rawa and pakihi.
The intern will be working primarily with Professor Chellie Spiller & Associate Professor Jason Mika. The internship project is a part of a broader NPM Research Programme, He oranga whānau: mahi ngātahi - Whānau livelihoods and wellbeing, which takes a tikanga-informed approach to accelerating Māori livelihoods and enterprise within the broader concept of a Māori wellbeing economy, to enhance whānau livelihoods and wellbeing.
The intern will be tasked with completing a comprehensive search and review of academic literature, news sources and government reports to compile the list of kupu Māori of reo whai rawa and pakihi. The intern will develop skills in working as part of a research team to complete deadlines and communicate ideas, alongside conducting systematic literature reviews, categorising, and organising data and deepening their understanding of te reo Māori lexicon.
